Big Time Adolescence Plot
A 16 year old virgin with a growth hormone deficiency slowly gets corrupted by his hero, an aimless college dropout.
A seemingly brilliant and mostly guiltless 16-year-old named Mo (Griffin Gluck) attempts to explore secondary school under the direction of his best companion Zeke (Pete Davidson), an unmotivated-yet-charismatic school dropout. In spite of the fact that Zeke truly cares about Mo, things start to go amiss as he teaches nontraditional life lessons in medicate managing, celebrating, and dating, while Mo’s good natured father (Jon Cryer) tries to step in and reclaim the reins of his son’s childhood.
Mo is a generally straight and together child (with his sharp insight, sleek great looks, and Howdy Doody hair style, he seems like sophomore class president material), yet he becomes Zeke’s protégé in hanging out and chasing kicks. Zeke drives the child around, giving him weed, liquor, and coarse misogynistic guidance in how to get laid, at that point slipping him increasingly enormous quantities of drugs to sell at parties — and if that sounds like a slightly wrong thing for him to do, it is.

Monroe “Mo” Harris blames his older friend Zeke Presanti as he is being called out of class by the principal and a police officer.
Mo’s older sister Kate dated Zeke when they were younger and always paid special attention to make Mo feel welcome. Even after Kate broke up with him, Zeke and Mo remained close friends, despite their major age difference. Mo’s parents, Reuben and Sherri, allow Mo to continue hanging out with Zeke despite their concern about what kind of influence Zeke is going to be on their young son. Zeke, now 23, is in a relationship with Holly, while Kate has just moved in with her boyfriend Doug. Zeke and Kate briefly continue to have an affair.
Now 16, Mo struggles with the social aspects of high school, spending most of his time with Zeke and his friends rather than anyone his own age. Zeke helps Mo acquire drinks for a party held by some seniors after being invited by fellow sophomore Stacey and gives Mo some weed to sell to the other kids. At the party, Mo earns credibility among the seniors for having brought alcohol and drugs. Mo sees his classmate Sophia, they strike up a conversation and she gives him her number.
Mo later takes Sophia out on a dinner date before going back to Zeke’s place to hang out. The boys tape forties to their hands in an effort to make Mo look impressive. Before Sophia leaves, she and Mo kiss. Mo goes back inside to brag to Zeke and Nick about it, earning him the nickname Tongue Daddy. Mo comes home accidentally stoned the next night before a family dinner and after his father finds out Mo is grounded and forbidden from hanging out with Zeke.
Mo begins to ignore Sophia, per Zeke’s advice on how to get girls, which makes her mad. After realizing his mistake he tries to explain the reason for ignoring her but she refuses to listen and walks out on him. Mo gets a call from Holly and he goes over to her place. Holly tells him that she and Zeke have broken up because he was cheating and takes Mo’s virginity to get back at Zeke.
Stacey gets into an accident in his car with a few seniors who are smoking and drinking. Not knowing what to do he ditches the car. The next day, a police officer comes to school and tells him he won’t get in trouble if he tells who is supplying him with the drugs they found in the car.
When the cops show up at a party looking for Mo, Zeke manages to get him out, evade the police, and bring Mo back to his place where Mo cries about how he has become a degenerate like Zeke, even though he never wanted to be. He also admits to Zeke that he slept with Holly and Zeke forgives him and the two reconcile. Zeke tells Mo that he should blame everything to do with the drugs on him, but Mo declines the offer, saying Zeke has done enough and he needs to handle this on his own.
The following day, Mo gets expelled from school and is sentenced to community service. Reuben drives to Zeke’s house and orders him to stay away from Mo.
3 months later, Mo attends another high school and only uses his car for completing his community service. Mo stops at a fast-food restaurant one day and is surprised to see Zeke working at the drive-thru window. Mo sits with Zeke and he asks Mo if he wants to hang out the next day and Mo says that maybe they can. But as Mo sits in his car, he texts Zeke to cancel. Zeke can be seen behind Mo’s car, obviously devastated by the news.

In June 2018, it was announced Griffin Gluck, Pete Davidson, Sydney Sweeney, Machine Gun Kelly, Thomas Barbusca, Emily Arlook and Oona Laurence had joined the cast of the film, with Jason Orley directing from a screenplay he wrote. Will Phelps, Glen Trotiner, Mason Novick, and Jeremy Garelick produced the film, under their American High and LD Entertainment banners, respectively. [2] In July 2018, Jon Cryer joined the cast of the film. [3]

Principal photography began in July 2018 in Syracuse, New York. Production also took place in Manlius, New York and Liverpool, New York. [4] [5]

Critical reception [ edit]
Big Time Adolescence received positive reviews from film critics. It holds a 84% approval rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 68 reviews, with a weighted average of 6. 89/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, “Funny, heartfelt, and brought to life by a smartly assembled ensemble, Big Time Adolescence finds fresh pleasures in the crowded coming-of-age genre. ” [9] On Metacritic, the film holds a rating of 64 out of 100, based on 20 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”. [10]
Brian Lowry of CNN criticized Davidson’s performance, stating, “Pete Davidson doesn’t exactly stretch much as a performer. ” In the same article, Lowry praised Gluck’s performance. [11]

“Big Time Adolescence, ” the new Pete Davidson movie filmed in Syracuse, is now streaming on Hulu. Produced by the Liverpool-based American High, “Big Time Adolescence” was originally set to be released in select theaters Friday and on Hulu next week. It’s unclear if the streaming release date was moved up due to the coronavirus disrupting the entertainment business; New York has banned all gatherings larger than 500 people and reduced legal capacity for smaller venues, such as movie theaters, by 50 percent. Written and directed by Jason Orley, “Big Time Adolescence” stars Davidson (“Saturday Night Live”) as a charismatic college dropout who corrupts a 16-year-old virgin (“American Vandal” actor Griffin Gluck) with a growth hormone deficiency. Davidson earned rave reviews for his breakout performance and the movie has an 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was shot in 2018 around Central New York, including scenes at the Palace Theater in Eastwood, Sylvan Beach Amusement Park, the Sound Garden record store in downtown Syracuse, and the former A. V. Zogg Middle School in Liverpool, now known as Syracuse Studios. The film’s cast also includes Colson Baker (better known as rapper Machine Gun Kelly), Sydney Sweeney (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Emily Arlook (“Grown-ish”), Thomas Barbusca (“The Mick”), Oona Lawrence (“Pete’s Dragon”), and Jon Cryer (“Pretty in Pink, ” “Two and a Half Men”). Cryer, who plays Gluck’s father, told THR that he loved doing the movie because he got to punch Davidson in the face. Hulu bought the rights to “Big Time Adolescence” for $4 million after the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year. It’s the first movie to be released under the American High banner from producer Jeremy Garelick, whose credits include “The Hangover, ” “The Wedding Ringer” and “The Break-Up. ” Garelick bought the former A. Zogg Middle School in 2017 to focus on making teen comedies, a genre underserved since the John Hughes “Brat Pack” era. Garelick also directed American High’s sixth movie, “ The Binge, ” starring Vince Vaughn, in the Syracuse area; the “Purge”-inspired comedy is expected to be released on Hulu later this year. “ Holly Slept Over, ” released under the spinoff American Indie because it’s not a teen film, was released directly to digital, DVD, Redbox and Video on Demand last week. “Banana Split” will be released under American High to select theaters and digital/VOD on March 27. Both were also filmed in the Syracuse area. Other American High movies shot in Syracuse over the past two and a half years include “The Binge” (directed by Garelick and starring Vince Vaughn); “Looks That Kill” (starring Brandon Flynn); “Sid is Dead” (starring Joey Bragg and Mary Stuart Masterson); and “The Ultimate Playlist of Noise” (starring Keean Johnson and Madeline Brewer). American High begins filming its eighth movie in the Syracuse area later this month. Note: Red-band trailer contains explicit language not suitable for younger audiences. What is Hulu?
